Speeding Offences: Solicitor Sean Reilly, Manchester and the North West
A speeding charge can cost you your licence, your insurance premium and your job. STR Legal defends speeding allegations across the whole of the North West of England.
Most speeding cases begin with a Notice of Intended Prosecution (NIP) landing within 14 days of the alleged offence. What you do next matters. Admitting the wrong thing, missing a deadline or returning the form incorrectly can turn a fixed penalty into a court summons, or a summons into a disqualification.
Sean Reilly reviews the evidence properly: device type and calibration, operator training records, the accuracy of the NIP, the identity of the driver, and whether the prosecution can actually prove the reading it relies on. Where the case cannot be proven, we say so and fight it. Where it can, we focus everything on protecting your licence and keeping the penalty to a minimum.
We deal with camera van and Gatso readings, average speed check (SPECS) cases, laser and radar readings, motorway allegations on the M60, M62, M6 and M56, and higher-band speeds that carry an immediate discretionary disqualification.
If you received a Section 172 notice rather than a speeding charge, see our page on failing to identify the driver.

Frequently asked questions
Can I be banned for a first speeding offence?
Yes. Speeds well above the limit fall into higher sentencing bands where the court can impose a discretionary disqualification even on a first offence. Early advice and strong advocacy make a real difference.
I already have 9 points, what happens now?
Three more points triggers totting up and a minimum 6 month ban. We prepare exceptional hardship arguments with proper evidence so the court hears why a ban would be disproportionate.
Do you cover courts outside Manchester?
Yes. We attend Magistrates' Courts across Greater Manchester, Cheshire, Merseyside and Lancashire.
